This tour offers you hiking, breathtaking views, local food, amazing nature, whale and dolphin watching and, if you want to, even canyoing, mountainbiking or surfing. ARRIVING DAY : LET’S CREATE HEARTBEAT MOMENTS!

Transfer from Airport to Santana / Get together 

​

It is time, we are starting our adventure. Welcome to Madeira! We will pick you up at the airport in our electro van “Vivi” and bring you to our first hotel in Santana. In the evening it is time to meet your travel buddies! We will have our first Get together, to get to know each other and learn more about our program in the next days. Sure thing: not without having a first Poncha, the drink of the island, in a local bar.

 

HEARTBEAT DAY 1: JUNGLE FEVER

Levada Caldeirao Verde – Ilha - Santana

Ready to rumble in the jungle?  Our first day brings us to one of the greenest parts of the island: we will hike the beautiful Levada Caldeirão Verde. Be prepared chasing waterfalls as we trek the path along the Levada. We will discover lush landscapes, hidden views and exciting tunnels on our way to the waterfall at the "green kettle". After our hike we will go on to Ilha, a little village in the mountains. Next stop is the traditional house in Santana – a view into Madeira’s history. The evening is free, but we will show you the best places for having dinner in Santana. A perfect first day! Hungry for more?

HEARTBEAT DAY 2: NORTHERN HIGHLIGHTS

Porto da Cruz  – Santo da Serra Market – Guindaste – São Jorge – Boaventura – Ponta Delgada – São Vicente

Today we continue our journey and explore the northern part of our beautiful island - pure nature! But not before we have discovered the small village of Porto da Cruz with its surfer vibes and a very local sunday classic afterwards: the farmer market in Santo da Serra. Let’s join the hustle and bustle among the stalls full of fresh vegetables, fruits, crafts and other goodies. A good chance to taste and buy local food, before we go on with our tour today.

Some highlights in the north are awaiting us: Faial Valley with the Guindaste viewpoint and Miradouro das Cabanas. We dive into history at São Jorge as we explore the Ruinas there, including the "door to the sea". Keep your camera ready, because the last one is a quite enchanting motive.

Hungry? We got you: Barbecue time with some local food and one of the most beautiful views. Let’s relax, have a beer and some smokey grilled chicken, salad and veggies.

​On we go! We stop in Boaventura, one of the oldest villages. Due to its isolated location, the place has preserved much of its original charm. Next: Ponta Delgada, a hidden village that is often overlooked. Wrongly so! It is beautifully situated between lush greenery and blue sea. We also will not miss out São Vicente, with the famous white church tower. A great photo motif and an even greater view from up there, because from here you have a unique perspective on the rugged charm of the island. 

In the evening we arrive in our new hotel in Funchal, where you are free to explore the main city of the island. Don't worry, we have plenty of recommendations for you. 

 

HEARTBEAT DAY 3: WESTSIDE STORY

Achadas da Cruz - Porto Moniz – Fanal - Ribeira da Janela – Seixal

Let’s hunt some Insta-famous locations today! We start the day with visiting a a piece of paradise: Achadas da Cruz. One of our absolute favourite places on the island. Get ready for some thrills, because here we go 600m downhill - with one of the steepest cable cars in Europe. Want to cool down? Perfect, because we are heading to Porto Moniz, where we find the famous natural sea pools between black volcanic rocks. Let’s jump in!
We continue our journey by climbing up the mountain in our Van “Vivi” to the island’s fairytale forest: Fanal. It seems straight out of a storybook. Walk among strangely shaped trees and keep your eyes peeled for the famous cows that sometimes appear out of nowhere in the mystical mist.  
Our journey continues to Ribeira da Janela . The highlight here is the impressive rock that rises from the sea and has an opening that resembles a window. Last but not least: the famous black sand beach and waterfalls in Seixal. Cameras at the ready, because the landscape with beach, sea and waterfalls is just fantastic! 

Today we call it an early night, because next day’s adventure starts early the morning.

HEARTBEAT DAY 4: FROM HEAVEN TO SEA

Pico Areeiro Sunrise - Stairway To Heaven - Vereda do Larano - Picnic (Santa Cruz)

Good morning early birds, time to get ready for an epic adventure: catching the sunrise at Pico do Areeiro and hiking to the famous Stairway To Heaven, before we heading to one of the most beautiful hikes of the island: Vereda do Larano. We are starting the day with hot tea or coffee, watching the sun rising above the clouds in the fresh morning. A moment, that will live rentfree in our head forever!

Afterwards we're setting out to conquer the oh-so-rewarding hike from Machico to Porto daCruz. You can expect amazing landscapes high above the cliffs, a beautiful flora and a tour-experience which makes your friends green like envy.​

No Heartbeat Hike without a reward afterwards. Let’s vibing like locals and have a picnic at one of the island’s barbecue places. Great food and ice-cold beers are awaiting us at a local barbecue place in Santa Cruz. Cheers to a great day – cheers to us and new friends!

HEARTBEAT DAY 5: SUNNY SOUTH SIDE

Ribeira Brava – Ponta do Sol – Cascata dos Anjos – Calheta Beach - Paul do Mar – Cabo Girão – Câmara do Lobos

After yesterday’s adventure, we all deserve a relaxing day and some Vitamin D! Ready for Madeira's places with the most hours of sunshine? We explore  the vibrant south side of the island today. From Ribeira Brava's best viewpoint with a fantastic panoramic of the Atlantic Ocean, to Ponta do Sol the warmest spot on the island, to Cascata dos Anjos, the Insta-Famous waterfall, which falls directly on the street – we are starting off strong into the day!​

Next we discover Paul do Mar with its charming surfer vibes. Afterwards: Calheta Beach, where you can just relax on the beach and soak up some sun. ​We are closing the day with a quick stop in Madalena do Mar, the Cabo Girão Skywalk, one of the highest capes in Europe and some Poncha in the birthplace of the drink: Câmara do Lobos.​

To end this sunny day, let’s catch the breathtaking sunset together.

 

HEARTBEAT DAY 6: CLIFFS & DOLPHINS

Vereda Ponta de São Lourenço -  Whale and Dolphin watching - Poncha class Camacha

Let’s change the scenery and explore the very east end of Madeira: Ponta de São Lourenço. We will have a short hike at the Vereda between dramatic cliffs. A must do! After a lunch break it is time for our next adventure: we jump on a boat and go for Doplhin and (hopefully) Whale watching. Madeira’s coast is one of the best locations to spot the beautiful sea creatures - finger's crossed for lots of spottings! 

Ready for the next point on today’s itinerary? It's time for our Poncha Tasting & Class! The best place for that? Camacha, up in the chilly mountains. We will show you a local bar, where barely a tourist is found and you get to know an original: Senhor Agostinho! Ready to learn how to make your own Poncha from him, learn about the history of the drink and try some original flavour? Let’s go!

Everybody’s heart beats for something else. That’s why we have a “Flex Day” in our program. What that means? It’s your choice! You just want to relax at the hotel? Great! You want to discover Funchal on your own? Go on! You are up for even more adventure? We help you booking a Surfing Class, a Canyoying Trip or a Mountainbiking tour with our favorite partners. You want to have a wine tasting or discover Fajã dos Padres? We got you!

And: We would not be Heartbeat Madeira, if we are not having a great last evening together. Let’s have a Farewell Group Dinner in a very unique and local place: Chef André's garden. He will serve us great homemade food, with freh igredients out of his garden, wine and Poncha. Combined with a fantastic view over the bay of Funchal.
