I love the lively weekly market in Santo da Serra. Shop between locals and have a traditional Poncha with them afterwards. Best sunday vibes! _Katrin

OUR ROUTE FOR THE DAY
Start: 09:00 | Duration: 7 hours*

STUNNING VIEWS, A LOCAL MARKET, HIGH CLIFFS AND MADEIRA'S VERY OWN CHRIST STATUE

JUST ON SUNDAYS

Hey explorer! Want to dive into the local life? Then come with us to the heart of eastern Madeira. What awaits you? Great nature and the turbulent local farmers' market in Santo da Serra. Authentic Madeira and a perfect sunday tour!

We will pick you up at one of our meeting points, either in Funchal city center, Lido or Caniço. Let's go!

Detour North: let's begin!

Our first destination is the stunning Poiso (1) with its breathtaking scenery and fresh mountain air. On the way, we'll stop for coffee and a quick get together to explain the day's itinerary while you sip a hot bica or garoto.

Above the Clouds: Pico Areeiro

A real highlight and must-see: the viewpoint Pico Areeiro (2). A truly Insta-worthy panorama high above the clouds awaits us. Probably one of Madeira's most famous photo motifs.

Local delights at Santo da Serra Sunday Farmer's Market

We dive into the hustle and bustle of the local market in Santo da Serra (3). Here, mostly locals bustle among the stalls full of fresh vegetables, fruits, crafts and other goodies. You'll have plenty of time to explore and shop for everything. And: we wouldn't be Heartbeat Madeira if we wouldn't stop at one of the Poncha stands together, to tase the famous local drink. And beware: the Poncha here has it all! You probably won't get it more authentic anywhere. Cheers to a great day!

Portela's natural beauty awaits

Portela (4) attracts with its natural beauty: green mountains, blue sea and the Penha d'Águia (a 600 meters high geological formation) on the horizon offer a breathtaking view. This is nature at its most raw.

Coastal Gem: Machico's laid-back vibes

We love Machico (5) - and not only because of the beautiful sandy beach and the enchanting bay. Here, everything seems a bit more cozy. And that's despite the fact that Machico is considered the "birthplace" of Madeira, because this is where João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira first set foot on the island in 1419. We will explore the village together with you.

Miradouro Pico do Facho: Sea as far as the eye can see

Our van will take us up high again, to the Pico do Facho (5) viewpoint, which offers a great view of Machico and the blue sea.

Miradouro São Lourenço: rugged beauty

Continuing with great views, our next stop is the Miradouro São Lourenço (6) . At the easternmost end of Madeira, a rugged but beautiful coastal landscape awaits us. The view of the cliffs and the wild Atlantic Ocean is simply fascinating and offers a glimpse of the untamed beauty of Madeira's east coast.

Caniço: Madeira's very own Christ Statue

Our last stop takes us to Caniço (7), where we visit the 14-meter high Cristo Rei statue. This was inaugurated on October 30, 1927 - making it a full four years older than the world-famous Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro.

Back to Funchal: cheers to New Adventures

Please be aware that the weather in Madeira is unpredictable, it has a sub tropical climate and can change unexpectedly during the day. That means sometimes paths or places are closed by the local authorities or it might be too dangerous to do the originally planned trip. In these cases we are doing our best to inform you in time and offer you alternatives, but sometimes we need to be flexible on the tour day itself. What will never be missed is good mood and the beauty of the island - no matter what weather, we are sure you will enjoy this paradise!
